Wow. It has been 50 years since Bill passed.  It does seem like it but at the same time it doesn't seem like it's been that long since he died.  Bill's funeral was the first funeral I drove to in my Dad's 1968 Chevy Impala.  I don't recall if I had a car full of guys or if my girlfriend was with me (actually she may have been one of Bill's ex girlfriends!). There was a very long line of cars, all with their lights on crawling out to the cemetery.  It was a good funeral.  Bill was missed.  I remember Bill from Crockett and Bonham Junior High when we were in classes and sports together, particularly football and track.  We were also lockermates at Bonham. Although Bill was taller than me, I had the smaller and higher top locker shelf.  Bill's stuff occupied almost the entire bottom locker and was full of shi_, I mean stuff!  Bill sure had a cool, calm, and friendly demeanor.  He was also a very good athelete.  I recall how we froze our a _ _es off on the football fields on those cold, windy fall days.  We also almost blew away on the track at Bivins Stadium. Some of our most memorable times were on the weekends and summer breaks during the junior high years.  Frequently, the "Austin JH girls" and the "Crockett and Bonham JH guys" would gather in the neighborhood around Julie Drive and Paramount Blvd and hang out.  We had several mutual friends that lived on Julie Dr.  One of our favorite group activities was throwing water balloons at cars. (I'm sure those of you who read this and participated in those activities have fond memories of the same.)  Now that I write this, I wonder why the Crockett guys came to our Paramount neighborhood area to throw water balloons!  Well, whatever.  No real damage was ever done and nobody got hurt.  We all developed some good friendships and lasting memories. I am surprised there haven't been more comments or memories posted here for Bill.  Bill was a great guy, passed way too soon and left us with a lot of good memories.  Sincerely, Glenn Griffin.
