KAREN HENSLEE MITCHELL 

Karen Henslee Mitchell went to her eternal home on November 1, 2021 in Houston, Texas.

Karen had a heart of gold, and she lit up the room with her infectious smile and laughter. A friend to all, she brought joy to many and would lend a hand to anyone in need. She was an avid seamstress, photographer, and animal lover who enjoyed cooking, boating, shopping, and bowling. A 25+ year survivor of breast cancer, Karen proudly wore the color pink. With great strength and perseverance, she stayed optimistic even in the darkest of days.

Karen grew up in Amarillo, Texas where she attended Tascosa High School and Amarillo College. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Charles Henslee; her brother, Kerry Henslee; former husband Gary Mitchell; and partner Jim Pruitt. Karen is survived by her daughter, Aimee Mitchell; grandson, Kaiden Brackin; brother, Gale Henslee and partner Samantha Scott; sister, Lora Putney and husband Robert Putney; sister-in-laws, Careyn Henslee and Terry Henslee; aunt, Joy Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life reception for Karen will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Alicia’s Mexican Grille, 20920 Kuykendahl, Spring, Texas 77379.

Plants and flowers can be sent to Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home, 9926 Jones Road, Houston, Texas 77065. A memorial donation can also be given in memory of Karen to the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
