 James T. “Jimmy” McElroy Jr., 58, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel with Charlie Cox officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Jimmy was born July 30, 1954, in Amarillo to J.T. and Frances McElroy. He was a 1972 graduate of Tascosa High School. He passed away on Wednesday after a nine-month battle with lung cancer. He married Toni Thompson on Feb. 15, 1974, in Amarillo. Jimmy worked as an electrician in Amarillo for many years, working for Ray Electric for 17 years, Crouse Hinds for 10 years and Pantex for the past 11 years. Jimmy will be remembered for his sense of humor and dry wit. He enjoyed working and riding motorcycles. He was gifted with much talent for building things and always enjoyed working with his hands. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Toni of Amarillo; a daughter, Michelle Genn and husband Jason of Fort Worth; a son, Jeremy McElroy of Amarillo; two sisters, Margaret Dunn and husband Jim and Rose Spencer and husband Hiram, all of Amarillo; and three grandchildren, Riley, Jonah and Ethan.
